ecoBUDGET®
An environmental management system developed by ICLEI Europe based on the logic of municipal budgets to help local governments manage natural resources.


EcoCities Network
Ecocities, also referred to as green or sustainable cities, are ICLEI Member cities that pursue a holistic and integrated approach to sustainable development. By joining this network jointly organized with Ecocity Builders, city stakeholders can share information, resources, best practices and accelerate actions.


Fast-growing cities network
Launched at the 2012 World Congress in Belo Horizonte, the Network runs on a rotating basis in which the Chair City will lead and facilitate the Network’s agenda in its one-year term.


Sustainable procurement
A program comprising of a policy implementation framework, an international network and a series of seminars and conferences that aims at helping cities to make more cost-effective purchases and manage their resources more efficiently.

A free, online self-assessment tool developed by ICLEI Europe to help local governments evaluate processes and progress towards sustainable development.


Sustainability Cycle
A cyclical, integrated sustainability management tool developed by ICLEI Europe to lead local governments advance their sustainability level and implement the Aalborg Commitments.


Sustainable Procurement Resource Center
The center contains useful resources on procurement for procurers, policy makers, researchers and other stakeholders, covering the areas of procurement criteria, policies and strategies, tools and guidance, good practice cases, projects and initiatives, studies and reports, eco-labels and other useful links.


STAR Community Index ™

Consisting of 81 goals and ten guiding principles, the Index provides a national standard for local governments in the United States to create, evaluate and revise sustainability plan.


Triple Bottom Line (TBL)
An integrated decision-making toolkit that assists policymakers to embed sustainability priorities in their planning process and to take social, economic and environmental concerns into account.

A European conference series dating back to 1998, it provides the latest practical solutions for implementing sustainable procurement, and serves as an exchange platform for purchasers from all levels of governments, suppliers and policy-makers.

Procura+ Exchange

The Procurement Forum
A professional social network for procurers run by ICLEI Europe to share information and discuss experiences, problems and solutions.


World Mayors Council on Climate Change
An alliance consisting of over 80 committed local government leaders concerned about climate change, the Council advocates for enhanced engagement of local governments in multilateral efforts on climate change and related sustainability issues. Membership is open to Mayors and equivalent leaders of municipal levels of government.

 

Our Advocacy

ICLEI advocates for cities' greater involvement in international decision making processes by representing their interests at major sustainable conferences and multilateral bodies such as UN Commission on Sustainable Development, Rio+20 and the European Commission, as well as working with our global partners including UNEP, UN-Habitat and Aalborg Commitments Network.

Aalborg charter and commitments
First adopted at the First European Conference on Sustainable Cities and Town in Aalborg in 1994 and later emendated at the Aalborg +10 Conference in 2004, the Aalborg charter and commitments provides a framework for promoting and accelerating local actions on sustainable development.


Urban Environmental accords (UEA)
Proclaimed on the UN World Environment Day in San Francisco in 2005, UEA signatories commit to develop ecological sustainable and economically dynamic policies and programs to address urban problems on energy, waste reduction, urban design, urban nature, transportation, environmental health and water. ICLEI South Asia assists 16 Indian cities to report UEA implementation.
