ICLEI Local Initiatives Awards
ICLEI Local Initiatives Awards encourage local governments to share their outstanding sustainable development initiatives worldwide. Winning entries reflect ICLEI's goal to recognize best practices by local governments who are using innovative measures that offer concrete results in their communities and also have the potential to serve as a source of inspiration and replication for local governments abroad.
In 2006, the ICLEI Local Initiatives Awards consisted of two types of awards: the Cities Enjoy Bicycles Awards, which focused on non-motorized vehicle use in urban transportation and the Judy Walker Memorial Prize, which focused on Member-to-Member cooperation and exchange. These awards were presented to the winners at the 2006 ICLEI World Congress in Cape Town, South Africa, 27 February — 3 March, 2006.
