COP15 and local government

Leading local government associations worldwide, representing communities right around the globe, are driving the Local Government Climate Roadmap; a process that started during COP 13 in December 2007.

The Roadmap advocates for a strong and comprehensive post-2012 global climate agreement.

ICLEI's role at COP15

ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability was one of the key organisations coordinating the effort to ensure international climate negotiations emphasised the crucial role of cities and local governments in climate protection, and recognised this key role in the post-2012 climate regime.

    Representatives from ICLEI Oceania and a number of Australian and New Zealand local governments attended COP15 to call on national delegations to recognise the work of local government.
