ICLEI Oceania in Indonesia

History

2001 - 2005

ICLEI South East Asia, funded by USAID, conducted a greenhouse gas mitigation program (Cities for Climate Protection) with 9 Indonesian cities:

  • Bandung
  • Bogor
  • Surabaya
  • Semarang
  • Cilegon
  • Yogyakarta
  • Balikpapan
  • Denpasar
  • Medan

July 2007

  • ICLEI Oceania worked with the City of Bogor and Ministry for Environment to conduct a national climate change conference, resulting in the Bogor Climate Declaration.

 December 2007, 2008

  • ICLEI conducted side events at the UNFCCC Conferences of Parties in Bali and Poznan, which included presentations on the role of Indonesian cities in tackling climate change.

2008

  • ICLEI Oceania was engaged by the Rockefeller Foundation to conduct an assessment of 5 cities for participation in climate change adaptation planning and projects.

2009, 2010

  • Oceania worked with Rockefeller Foundation, APEKSI and GTZ to establish the Urban Climate Network in Indonesia
  • ICLEI Oceania engaged by GTZ to develop an integrated climate planning framework to support the GTZ PAKLIM program
  • ICLEI Oceania engaged by Rockefeller Foundation to develop a replication methodology building on the original ACCCRN, for trialling in India in the first instance, then to be rolled out to other Asian countries

2011

  • Oceania contracted by GIZ (formerly GTZ) to provide technical support to the expanded PAKLIM program
  • Ongoing work with the ACCCRN replication program
  • Oceania engaged to support UNISDR to trial an online self assessment tool to assist cities in Africa and Asia to become "disaster ready", part of the "My City Is Getting Ready" campaign.  This pilot includes Makassar and Jakarta.
