CCP Rural Victoria InitiativeICLEI Oceania recognises that the issues and needs faced by rural and regional councils when confronting the challenge of global warming can be markedly different from those facing urban councils. With this in mind, ICLEI Oceania ran the CCP Victoria Program from 2002 until 2009, with the support of the Victorian State Government, Department of Sustainability and Environment (DSE). What is the CCP Victoria Program? What is the CCP Victoria Program? The CCP Victoria Program expanded on the successful CCP Australia Program to focus on issues specific to rural and regional councils in Victoria to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. Councils were provided information and support that value add to the existing milestone framework by providing direction to target greenhouse gas abatement actions. Importantly, this included greenhouse gas emissions from agriculture – a first for CCP internationally. Our PartnersThe unique CCP Victoria partnership, which includes all levels of government in Australia, assists councils to reduce greenhouse gas emissions from corporate and community activities. ICLEI, AGO, DSE and local government participants share a common goal to promote environmental action and sustainability with various client groups, with the overlapping focus being local government. All parties provide expertise and dedicated professional support, and foster networks to support local government to practice environmental responsibility. ParticipantsThere were 23 councils participating in the CCP Victoria Program:
