Children for Climate Protection

May - November 2009

The ZOOM campaign is back, and is once again mobilising children in 18 European countries to take action against climate change by making their daily journeys in an environmentally friendly way. Organised by the City Network Climate Alliance, the campaign encourages children to collect Green Footprints by hosting an activity week on sustainable mobility between the start of May and end of November. During this week each journey on foot, by bike, on skates, bus, train etc. counts as one Green Footprint.

All schools and kindergartens are invited to participate as ZOOM aims to beat the 2008 record and collect 1,546,834 Footprints, enough to surround the  world more than 38 times. All the while increasing their awareness of eco-friendly mobility and covering the topics of sustainability, climate and transport in a playful way.

Climate Alliance will present the Green Footprints collected by European children, to the participants of the COP 15 Climate conference in Copenhagen (Denmark), in December. Climate Alliance is an Associate Partner of the Local Government Climate Roadmap. This global process advocates for a strong post-2012 climate deal and emphasises the crucial role of cities and local governments in climate protection.
