Residents challenged to go green

Edmonton residents are being challenged to make one or two steps in improving the city’s environment through a new, city funded campaign.

The city’s Go Green! Campaign is asking residents to reduce their environmental imprint by taking on two actions that will improve the environment.

“Most Edmontonians do at least one thing to help the environment,” said Mayor Stephen Mandel in a press release.

“While there are so many ways you can help the environment, we ask you to focus on five key areas: travel smart, be yard smart, save energy, save water and reduce waste.”

Mandel also made plans to host a United Nations environmental conference official yesterday. Edmonton will play a host city to the International Council for Local Environmental Initiatives June 14 to 19 next year.

The council meets three times a year to allow municipal governments to trade ideas on how to make their cities greener. The council consists of over 800 municipalities.
