APRIL–MAY 2009

CLIMATE CHANGE EVENTS – AUSTRALIA

The Green Planning and Design Summit

29–30 June 2009, Vibe Savoy Hotel, Melbourne

The Green Planning and Design Summit steps beyond targets to consider the policies, strategies and innovations in material and management that drive sustainable development in cities, towns and regions across Australia. It considers the planning and design frameworks that are critical to sustainable growth.

How do our cities and towns tackle their vulnerabilities to become dynamic regions of growth? How can the core principles of planning and design adapt to the demands of climate change, demography and socio-economic needs?

Join planners, designers, builders and engineers as they discuss the capital frameworks within which Australia operates, innovates and initiates sustainable development.

Martin Brennan, ICLEI Oceania Deputy CEO, will be speaking on Day 1 of the conference and ICLEI members receive a 15% discount on registration costs.

Planning for Sustainable and Liveable Cities: A new short course run by Capire Consulting and the Planning Institute of Australia (Victoria division)

6–9 July, Melbourne.

Convened by Fulbright Scholar, Dr Iain Butterworth, this four-day short course explores ways to ensure that development is humanly, socially and ecologically sustainable.

It explores how to engage stakeholders in efforts to achieve integrated planning so that all planning and development (physical, economic, social, environmental and human) can inform and support the others.

The course brings together practitioners from across the public and private sectors, including developers, urban planners, elected representatives, health planners, social planners, managers, consultants and policy makers from all levels of government.

It will be of particular interest to local government practitioners, managers and councillors.

  • You can help your organisation improve its capacity to learn, grow and innovate.
  • It will be seen as more of a ‘can do’ innovator.
  • It will build its reputation in developing community leadership and community capacity.
  • It will gain profile as an ambassador for change.
  • It will improve its capacity to build interdisciplinary teams.

ICLEI Oceania has ensured that all ICLEI members and participating councils may attend at the discounted price, usually only available to Planning Institute of Australia members.

Please refer to the course brochure [PDF, 1.1 MB] for further information and registration.
