Brussels Capital-Region joins LAB

The Brussels Capital-Region is amongst a variety of cities keen to join the next phase of Local Action for Biodiversity. The Brussels Capital-Region recently formally became a participant in the new phase of LAB by signing the Agreement with ICLEI Africa last week at an official signing ceremony in the Belgian capital city.

The Agreement was signed by the Minister for the Environment of the Brussels Capital-Region, Ms. Huytebroeck, on 16 March at the Cabinet office of the Minister at Rue du Marais. Among the other attendees were Machteld Gryseels, Head of the Brussels Nature Conservation Administration (Brussels Environment, Division Nature, Water & Forest), Marie-Céline Godin (Brussels Environment, Division Nature, Water & Forest), Mario Ninanne (representative for the official Brussels Council for Nature Conservation), Sebastian Winkler (IUCN, Head of Countdown 2010), Alison Coleman (Regional Communications Officer at IUCN) and Peter Defranceschi of the ICLEI Brussels office.

Brussels Capital-Region signs Countdown 2010 Declaration

At the same meeting on 16 March, the Minister for the Environment of the Brussels Capital-Region, Ms. Huytebroeck, signed the Countdown 2010 Declaration showing further commitment to biodiversity. Among other 2010 actions, Brussels will develop a periodical assessment of biodiversity conservation from 2009 onwards and move forward in protecting local endangered species.
