How it Works
By providing professional support and local, regional, and international training opportunities, the ICLEI Water Campaign helps local governments and their stakeholders achieve tangible improvements in local water resource conditions.

To participate in the Water Campaign, local governments make a formal commitment to achieve five milestones. These milestones may be applied to all three Local Water Agenda areas simultaneously or progressively from one to the next as capacities and resources allow. The scope and scale of the program is determined locally.

The Five Water Campaign Milestones:
Milestone 1: Inventory and forecast direct and indirect impacts on water resources
Milestone 2: Establish targets for water quantity and water quality
Milestone 3: Develop and obtain approval for a local water action plan
Milestone 4: Implement policies and measures
Milestone 5: Monitor and report results

The local water action planning process encourages stakeholders to make coordinated progress toward locally determined water management goals.
