Water Campaign
Core of ICLEI’s Global Water Programme is the Water Campaign that was launched at the ICLEI World Congress in June 2000. The Water Campaign assists local governments to quantify and qualify water resource use, develop local water action plans, set targets, act on their plans, and track and report goal achievement.
The Water Campaign was introduced in Australia in 2001, the Philippines in 2004 and in Africa in 2005. In Australia, more than 120 local governments have meanwhile signed up to engage in the milestone process.
ICLEI members are encouraged to join the Campaign by
- adopting the Local Government Water Code (‘Lisbon Principles’)
- engaging in the five-step milestone approach
