How to join

2010/11 Program Offerings

Cities for Safe and Healthy Communities invites councils to participate in the 2010/11 program offerings.

We will be delivering three program areas to assist local governments foster municipal-wide health and wellbeing outcomes in partnership with their communities.

Alcohol Harm Reduction Program

This program – about to commence its third year – assists councils to manage the alcohol-related impacts in their municipality, as well as measuring the impacts of tobacco, medications, illicit drugs, gaming and sex work. It includes assisting councils to access, store and use data to aid decision-making.

New CSHC participants will also build a baseline data report for use in future evaluation of activities and approaches. Access will be provided to CSHC resources, including a data inventory toolkit, an interactive best practice website, and planners guides and checklists.

Three workshops will be held across the year, and the effective Safer Bars violence reduction program will be delivered as a train-the-trainer model in some jurisdictions.

Participation fees range from $8,500–$10,000 (plus GST) per council based on residential population size, with discounts for ICLEI membership and participation in other CSHC program areas.

Food Sustainability

This new program in 2010/11 will centre on the data collection phase of managing food at the local level.

All stages of the food cycle (including production, distribution, consumption, storage and waste management) are considered in relation to the role of local government, and data is used to measure current and potential future threats, vulnerabilities, assets and opportunities.

A best practice web resource will also be produced, and three capacity-building workshops will be held across the year.

Participation fees range from $6,500–$8,000 (plus GST) per council based on residential population size, with discounts for ICLEI membership and participation in other CSHC program areas.

This new program in 2010/11 will also commence with a data inventory process and development of a best practice web resource.

Workshops will focus on understanding local government’s specific role in mitigating and adapting to the climate change impacts on health, and on reducing these impacts on our vulnerable communities.

Participation fees range from $9,000–$12,500 (plus GST) per council based on residential population size, with discounts for ICLEI membership and participation in other CSHC program areas.
