The Global Alliance for EcoMobility mission is to reduce citizens’ dependency on private motorized vehicles, especially in urban mobility, and raise the profile of the practice of 'EcoMobility' – self-propelled forms of transport like walking, cycling, and skating, combined with the use of public transport.

EcoMobility SHIFT needs your feedback!
EcoMobility SHIFT aims to develop a method to assess, improve and promote the sustainability of local governments' mobility policies. Municipalities performing well on some indicators with will be able to obtain an "EcoMobility Label". In order to set up such a labeling scheme we have set a draft list of indicators. We invite you to review our work and to send us your opinion. In case you are interested and available to carry out this review, please answer this questionnaire. You just need to fill in what you want or have the time to, so don't feel frightened if the questionnaire appears long!

EcoMobility Changwon 2011: draft program available
A draft program for the EcoMobility Changwon 2011 Congress is now available. The Congress will particularly focus on bicycle sharing systems and on EcoMobility innovations. Visions for overcoming physical, institutional or financial barriers will also be explored. A City Challenges Workshop will concentrate on innovative solutions tailored to the particular needs of cities. ICLEI welcomes proposals of excellent urban cases to be presented at the Congress until the end of May 2011.

EcoMobility SHIFT project to be officially launched at the ECOMM conference
The EcoMobility SHIFT project will be officially launched on 19 May on the occasion of the European Conference on Mobility Management, Toulouse. Project partners will host the workshop "Improving cities sustainable transport policies by benchmarking and quality management". For more information, please read the press release. Today the project team is also releasing a technical brochure that provides detailed information about the project.

Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 starts today
The Decade of Action for Road Safety 2011-2020 aims to save lives by halting the increasing trends in road traffic deaths and injuries world-wide. Through the Decade, UN Member States commit to actions in areas such as limiting speed, reducing drink-driving, and increasing the use of seat belts. Efforts will also be undertaken to improve emergency trauma care, upgrade road and vehicle safety standards, and promote road safety education.

Bridging the Gap hosts "Moving transport from CDM to NAMAs" workshop
Bridging the Gap initiative will host the 2011 Bridging the Gap Symposium 'Moving transport from CDM to NAMAs" on 9 June. The event will discuss recent developments for transport and climate change, present the latest thinking on transport NAMAs, and discuss that with governmental representatives and world leading experts in the field. Report from Sustrans calls for a step change in cycling
A new report from Sustrans provides evidence that investing in cycling could significantly change mobility patterns in the English city regions. There is an enormous potential for increasing cycling, given that nearly half all trips are under 5km. In the report, Sustrans recommends a step change in investment levels and which measures should be given priority in order to achieve a step change in cycling behavior.

EcoMobility Changwon 2011: your contribution is needed!
ICLEI welcomes proposals of excellent urban cases to be presented at EcoMobility Changwon 2011 - World Congress on Mobility for the Future of Sustainable Cities, 22-24 October 2011 in Changwon, Korea. EcoMobility 2011 will bring advanced cities together with industry, business, academics, international organizations and decision-makers steering the current trends in EcoMobility to explore good practice and pursue future solutions together in partnership. Submissions can be sent until mid May 2011.

The article highlights key challenges in an ever populated and growing society that is car oriented. The Global Alliance for EcoMobility hopes for cities with such challenges to participate in EcoMobility 2011, the upcoming congress on mobility for the future of sustainable cities. Participants will learn how to transform their city to support EcoMobility and create more sustainable transportation systems in their cities.
