Green procurement training

Various dates until December 2008, Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra, Brisbane, Adelaide, Perth and Hobart.

Good Environmental Choice Australia (GECA) has developed a green procurement course that explains the concepts of green specifications, product certifications, life-cycle-analysis and ecolabelling.

The course will help procurement professionals recognise and set criteria and specifications that are right for their procurement procedures, and align environmental purchasing priorities into their existing system and activities.

National Sustainable Procurement Conference

18–19 September 2008, Brisbane

The fourth National Sustainable Procurement Conference (formerly National Buying Green Conference) is coming soon and features international keynotes, case studies, workshops and a trade expo of sustainably preferred products and suppliers.

Held just every two years, this is the only conference in Australia dedicated to sustainable procurement.

This year’s theme is ‘integrate – connect – progress’:

  • Integrating sustainability into procurement policy and practice
  • Understanding how buyers and suppliers need to ‘connect’ or work together in order to develop sustainable products and markets
  • Making real progress in moving sustainable procurement from policy to mainstream practice.

The conference is hosted by the Queensland Government and supporters include the Chartered Institute of Purchasing and Supply (Australia and New Zealand), the Australian Procurement and Construction Council, and Ecospecifier.

Sustainable Building 2008 Conference – SB08 Melbourne

21–25 September 2008, Melbourne

Held every three years, the World Sustainable Building (SB) Conference series is the peak gathering of the world’s leading technical experts and researchers on sustainable built environments.

The SB08 Melbourne program is taking shape with some top-line speakers including:

  • Prof. Bill Rees. Best known as the originator of the ecological footprint analysis concept, Prof. Rees is a professor at the University of British Columbia.
  • Ms Rosario Marin. A Cabinet member of the State Government of California and formerly the 41st Treasurer of the United States from 2001 to 2003 under President G. W. Bush, Ms Marin now chairs Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger’s Green Action Team, which is implementing a policy and action agenda aimed at greening the state of California.
  • Mr Douglas Durst. Mr Durst is Head of the Durst Organisation, which is building the Bank of America Tower at One Bryant Park, the most environmentally advanced office tower in the world. He is one of New York City's most respected real estate owners and developers, and a pioneer of the Green Building Movement.
  • The conference trade exhibition will include promotion of countries involved in sustainable building. Currently Canada, Japan, Germany, Sweden, Hong Kong, Korea, Taiwan and Spain will be represented at the exhibition.

Introduction to Energy Management training

Carbon Market Expo Australasia

30–31 October 2008, Gold Coast

Carbon Market Expo Australasia 2008 is the first industry-hosted carbon trade fair and conference in Australia and will bring together carbon market product and service providers and their customers.

The event will be hosted by Environment Business Australia and the Asia-Pacific Emissions Trading Forum with the Queensland Government and Gold Coast City Council.

Carbon Market Expo Australasia 2008 will feature a high-level conference, major trade fair and in-depth technical workshops that draw on the skills and knowledge of experts actively participating in carbon markets.
