The City of Edmonton is an environmental leader in many areas and individual Edmontonians are doing their part. Edmonton's Environmental Strategic Plan (ESP) (2.3 MB, pdf) 2006 reflects the City’s commitment to sustainability and to public engagement. Such a plan is an important tool for municipalities, and it is a significant step forward in the way Edmonton incorporates environmental considerations into City decision-making processes. The City’s ESP addresses the environmental threats and opportunities facing Edmonton. It serves as a framework environmental management strategy recommending actions, programs and targets focused on these issues, to make Edmonton a more environmentally sustainable city.
EcoVision Edmonton® is Edmonton City Council’s vision for an environmentally sustainable city, expressed through the Environmental Strategic Plan. The goal of EcoVision Annual Report 2007 (5.65 MB, pdf) is to promote environmental awareness and accountability by reporting on the environmental condition of the City of Edmonton, the environmental performance of the community and of the city. The report also provides information on the City of Edmonton’s environmental management framework, the environmental challenges facing Edmonton and the City of Edmonton, and the City’s 2007 environmental achievements.
