ICLEI and the City of Edmonton welcomed participants to the World Congress 2009! Edmonton  Mayor Stephen Mandel and ICLEI President David Cadman along with our high-level government representatives and partners opened the 2009 Congress.

ICLEI: Historic Impact and Strategic Direction

Executive Committee Members and ICLEI staff addressed the organization’s development since the 2006 World Congress and its future direction, and key Member initiatives were highlighted.

An overview of the last three-years and presentations on ICLEI’s organizational development in terms of membership, governing bodies and regional offices was given. Current issues from each region and a showcasing of Members (urban & rural, metropolis & town, North & South) were provided.

ICLEI’s President and Secretary General touched on the need for action by ICLEI and its Members while presenting proposals for ICLEI’s strategic direction. An accompanying document outlining the proposals was available to Full Members.
