World Economic Forum nominates ICLEI Secretary-General to new Global Agenda Council on Urban Management
01-08-08
The Founder and Executive Chairman of the World Economic Forum, Prof Klaus Schwab, has invited ICLEI Secretary General Konrad Otto-Zimmermann to become a member of the World Economic Forum’s Global Agenda Council on Urban Management. Mr Otto-Zimmermann has accepted this invitation and confirmed his attendance of the Inaugural Summit on the Global Agenda to be held in Dubai from 7 to 9 November 2008, in partnership with the Government of Dubai.
Global Agenda Councils: a new discussion space for leaders
Amid the effort of prevailing international governance systems to effectively address global challenges, the World Economic Forum will form Global Agenda Councils on the foremost topics in the global arena.
For each major topic - Urban Management being one of them - , the Forum will identify and convene 15 to 30 of the world’s leading experts to capture the very best knowledge on each key issue and integrate it into global collaboration and decision-making processes.
Global Agenda Councils: thinking for the long term
Global Agenda Councils will challenge prevailing assumptions, monitor trends, map interrelationships and address knowledge gaps. Equally important, Global Agenda Councils will also propose solutions, devise strategies and evaluate the effectiveness of actions using measurable benchmarks.
In a global environment marked by short-term orientation and silo-thinking, Global Agenda Councils will foster interdisciplinary and long-range thinking into the prevailing challenges on the global agenda.
Contributing to the World Economic Forum activities
The insights and undertakings of these Global Agenda Councils will feed directly into the Forum’s activities and processes, with the ultimate goal of realizing the Forum’s vision of having a positive and direct impact on shaping the global, industry and regional agendas.
The strength of a network
The Network of Global Agenda Councils will have a major impact on shaping the global agenda by monitoring and prioritizing global challenges, by elaborating solutions and by being available in crisis management situations. It will also act as an advisory board to the World Economic Forum and other interested parties, such as governments and international organizations.
