World Bank: sustainable construction can save 25% in energy consumption
A recent study by the World Bank concluded that “Improving energy efficiency for existing buildings and other infrastructure could cut current energy consumption by 25 per cent or more in India, China and Brazil, amounting to millions of tonnes in reduced greenhouse gas emissions and hundreds of millions of dollars in energy savings”. Robert Taylor, a World Bank Lead Energy Specialist and leader of the Three Country Energy Efficiency Project (3CEE).
Influencing the construction sector with regulations
Through the project, participating public administrations will develop action plans to develop and implement new legislation/regulations with the goal of influencing the building and construction sector to conduct projects in a more sustainable manner by employing innovative techniques, new technology and materials that emit less CO2, reduce energy consumption and illegal deforestation.
