Edmonton is located on the VIA Rail transcontinental route.
Rail passengers can travel west from Saskatoon (8 hours), Winnipeg (20 hours) or Toronto (2 1/2 days), or east from Jasper (5 1/2 hours), Kamloops (15 1/2 hours) and Vancouver (1 day).
Greyhound Bus Lines provide service to Edmonton from anywhere in North America, including Winnipeg (18 hours), Jasper (5 hours), Vancouver (16 hours), Denver (2 1/2 days) or even Mexico City (4 1/2 days)!

We are well aware that for those participants arriving from outside North America, it is almost unavoidable to fly to Edmonton. For your convenience, we provide you with some information on connections to Edmonton by plane.
The Edmonton International Airport (YEG) is serviced by more than twenty-five national and international airlines. These provide air services from all major Canadian cities, ten major U.S. hubs and charter services from Europe and other international destinations (Cancun, Mexico City, Montego Bay and more).
Europe
There are currently specials by Air Canada- fly from Amsterdam, Paris and other European capitals for under 500 Euro!
The only direct flights currently offered from Europe are from and to London. With the Eurostar and connecting high-velocity trains such as the Thalys, London is easily reached from all over Western Europe.
Air Canada flies daily from and to Heathrow, double daily on Sundays & Tuesdays.
Most mayor European cities also offer good connections via other Canadian Cities or the US.
Asia
There are currently no direct services from Asia, but there are excellent connections via Vancouver on Air Canada, Cathay Pacific and most major Asian carriers.
Latin America and Caribbean
Mexicana operates three times a week Mexico City - Edmonton, and has many connecting flights throughout the region.
U.S.
Most carriers listed here offer flights at least twice a day!United Airlines to Chicago, San Francisco and Denver-Northwest/Delta to Minneapolis and Salt Lake City - Alaska Airlines to Seattle -US Airways to Phoenix
There are many trans-continental connections via the U.S. However, due to the security measures in place there, please be aware that traveling via the U.S. can be troublesome and time-consuming.
There is also an international airport located at Calgary, 250 km from Edmonton.
The best way to get around Edmonton is by public transport, and for the duration of the Congress, you can use it for FREE by showing your badge!

Edmonton’s public transit is rapidly expanding, making it an increasingly viable eco-friendly option.
You will receive complimentary transportation on Edmonton’s public transit system just by showing your delegate badge during the Congress!
The Edmonton Transit System (ETS) covers more than 150 routes, including a Light Rail Transit System (LRT). The LRT has been in Edmonton for over 25 years, and travels 12.3 km from the northeast part of the city, tunnelling under Jasper Avenue downtown and linking across the North Saskatchewan River to the University of Alberta campus.
The hours of operation are from 5:00 a.m. to 1:30 a.m. (Monday to Saturday) and 5:00 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. (Sunday).
For information about the different routes and schedules, please consult the ETS website, or use the ETS Trip Planner to get customised transit trip plans in seconds. From the University of Alberta Residence the LRT is from University Station to Churchill station, daily from 5:52am to 12:57pm (Sun 11:57 pm).
The river valley, downtown areas and the Old Strathcona area are easy to explore on foot, and there are hundreds of kilometres of bicycle trails around the city. Visit the City of Edmonton website to obtain a Cycle Edmonton map, and to get more information on cycling in Edmonton.
Most of the Congress hotels, as well as the venue, can easily be reached on foot within the centre of Edmonton.
