Sustainable Urban Water Management in Action ForumWednesday 7 May 2008The Sustainable Urban Water Management in Action Forum for for NSW Water Campaign™ participants was presented with support from the Australian Government Department of the Environment, Water, Heritage and the Arts. Presentation and Site Visit: Water Recycling Innovation at North Sydney OvalNorth Sydney Council has partnered with the Cammeray Golf Club and the North Sydney Bowling Club to implement an innovative, long term solution to sustainably irrigate North Sydney’s largest sporting and recreational area at the heritage listed North Sydney Oval at St Leonards Park. Presentation: Achieving Sustainable Management of Sporting Fields in Western SydneyPenrith City Council is implementing a range of actions to achieve sustainable sporting field management including researching alternative water sources for irrigation, implementing best practice irrigation techniques and trialling the use of recycled organic waste as a soil conditioner on sporting fields. Presentation: Willoughby City Council's Chatswood Civic Place ProjectWilloughby City Council is redesigning their Civic Place to include a water saving scheme that will harvest stormwater from buildings in the Chatswood CBD. Site Visit: Foxglove Oval Leachate Remediation – Biological Treatment of Leachate for Reuse on Sporting FieldsHornsby Shire Council has used a series of innovative processes to remediate an old tip site and reuse the leachate. Forum participants were able to see first hand how the water is treated using a biological reactor and a series of small wetlands. |
