Mayor Dan Cort

Biography:
As CEO of the Cort Companies, Dan Corthas been actively involved in the renovation of historic real estate in Northern California for the past 30 years.  CortCompanies has purchased and restored over a million square feet of historic office and retail space in California.  The company’s focus is on revitalizing neighborhoods, with the emphasis on the Urban Village.  While others are designing new cities, Cort Companies is rebuilding our old ones.

Beginning his career with the restoration of landmark Victorian homes, Mr. Cortwas instrumental in establishing the Magnolia National Historic District in Stockton.  He developed Eden Square, an urban village complete with apartments, adult and child day care centers, Italian-style cafes, schoolsand shops.  The CortCompanies has been a major force in reversing the trend from urban sprawl to the infill of our recovering central urban areas.  Mr. Cort has segued into the renovation and adaptive re-use of larger office towers, warehouse lofts and retail centers in Stockton, San Francisco, and the Monterey Peninsula.

Mr. Cortholds undergraduate and graduate degrees from the University of the Pacific.  He lectures throughout the United States on the preservation of our inner cities, and housing and job creation.  As a consultant for public agencies revitalizing their downtowns, Mr. Cort offers new approaches to the renewal of our cities.

His commitments have extended to serving on the Boards of the Downtown Stockton Development Corporation, Downtown Alliance, Children's Museum, United Way, YMCA, and as a member of Rotary, and a full member of the Urban Land Institute.   In Monterey, Mr. Corthas chaired the Monterey Public Safety Appreciation Committee, and has been a major sponsor for Stillwell’s Snow in the Park.  He sits on the Advisory Board, Center for Nonproliferation Studies at MIIS.  Mr. Corthas served on and chaired Pacific Grove’s Planning Commission and served as a City Councilmember in Pacific Grove.  He is currently the Mayor of Pacific Grove.
