Project results available on Promoting Sustainable Timber in Italy
11-07-07
The project ‘Promoting Best Practice Internationally on Sustainable Timber Procurement Policies’ was recently completed.
The six-month project aimed to increase the awareness and promote the establishment of responsible procurement practices for timber and wood-based products by government bodies in Italy.
Concretely, the project involved: analyzing current sustainable purchasing practices, collecting good practices to transfer and promote experiences, and raise awareness of the issues through a one-day seminar that was held in January in Padova (Italy).
The seminar showed that a number of local governments in Italy are committed to changing their purchasing practices towards sustainable timber and wood-based products. In terms of practical guidance available to assist purchasers in their sustainable procurement actions, there is a manual and web portal, currently only available in Italian. For further information on these Italian materials, please visit www.greenpeace.it/progettoforeste/manuale-appalti.pdf and www.proforest.net/cpet.
For more detailed information on the results of the survey, good practice cases and further recommendations, please download the project report from www.iclei-europe.org?timber. Alternatively, please contact Ms Amalia Ochoa, at amalia.ochoa@iclei-europe.org.
