C40 Large Cities Climate Summit Summit

16-05-07
ICLEI President David Cadman, along with the International Coordinators of ICLEI’s Cities for Climate Protection® (CCP) Campaign, Ms Michelle Wyman and Mr. Wayne Wescott, attended the second meeting of the C40 Large Cities Climate Project. Mayors and their representatives from over 40 large cities around the world gathered for the three-day session to discuss strategies with global business leaders that could be undertaken at the local government level to both mitigate and adapt to climate change. One big announcement was the Energy Efficiency Building Retrofit Program, bringing together four of the world’s largest energy service companies (ESCOs), five of the world’s largest banks, and fifteen of the world’s largest cities in a landmark program designed to reduce energy consumption in existing buildings.  ICLEI Members that will participate in this landmark program are:  Bangkok (Thailand), Berlin (Germany), Chicago (U.S.A.), Houston (U.S.A.), Johannesburg (South Africa), London (U.K.), Melbourne (Australia), Mexico City (Mexico), Rome (Italy), São Paulo (Brazil), Seoul (Korea), and Toronto (Canada). ICLEI is a partner in the C40 Large Cities Climate Project, sharing the tools and methodologies developed through the CCP Campaign, and working directly on the engagement of the 40 participating cities.
