LAB Project welcomes UNEP

ICLEI’s Local Action for Biodiversity (LAB) Project was pleased to learn that the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) will engage with the project in certain areas of cooperation. The areas of cooperation include:

Providing technical and normative support on ecosystem services and other relevant urban environmental approaches;
Using its networks in developing countries to encourage local and national governments to participate in LAB;
Cooperating with LAB in strengthening the capacity of developing country cities to develop and implement policies on the sustainable use of biodiversity;
Considering developing a global publication of case studies, serving as a follow-up to the Curitiba Meeting where UNEP was mandated to develop a publication of best practices and as a preparation for the Convention on Biological Diversity (BOD) COP9 Municipal Pre-Conference;
Joining the LAB Advisory Panel; and working together in general in developing tools on cities and biodiversity.
