Archived Events - 2007Climate change in a climate of change!Tuesday 27 November 2007ICLEI Oceania Recognition and Briefing Breakfast held at the Australian Local Government Association's National General Assembly of Local Government in Darwin. Across Australia ICLEI Oceania is working with local councils committed to sustainability and working with their community to achieve tangible outcomes. Councils participating in the CCP program, the Water Campaign™ and the Sustainability Services TBL Capacity Building Program were recognised and delegates were briefed on the work of the Australasian Mayors Council for Climate Protection. There was an attendance of 156 people of which 39 councils were recognised. View images. Local government tackling climate changeFriday 19 October 2007ICLEI Oceania held a Briefing Breakfast at the Adelaide Convention Centre as part of the Local Government Association of South Australia's AGM. South Australians need to collaborate if climate change strategies are to be effective, a notion thread throughout speeches from ICLEI, the LGASA, Minister Gail Gago and the Australasian Mayors Council for Climate Protection (AMCCP). View images. The achievements of South Australasian councils are leading edge, yet like local and state initiatives across the country there is much more that needs to be done. A panel forum followed the speakers and allowed the audience of mostly mayors to engage in discussion on water and energy policies and community approaches. The AMCCP will play a major role in events like this across Australia and New Zealand. All mayors representing council participants of CCP programs are encouraged to propose issues and initiatives for the AMCCP to consider. Local Governments Delivering on SustainabilityPerth, 6 August 2007ICLEI Oceania held a recognition event at the Western Australian Local Government Association (WALGA) Local Government Convention on Monday 6 August. During the breakfast it was announced that the City of Melville will host ICLEI Oceania's Western Australian Water Campaign™ staff. Council's CEO, Mr Eric Lumsden, was presented with a hosting agreement certificate and gave a short presentation.

The event recognised the recent milestone achievements of south west councils and showcased local government water management action. Tasmania CCP Recognition EventFriday 2 March 2007, Hobart Town Hall BallroomAll five Tasmanian councils participating in the Cities for Climate Protection (CCP) Australia Program attended this recent recognition event. Hobart Lord Mayor Robert Valentine provided the welcome address and the Hon. David Llewellyn, Minister for Primary Industries and Water, Energy, and Police and Emergency Management, awarded councils for their commitment to reduce greenhouse gas emissions. The Hon. Following the recognition of councils Dr John Hunter, Antarctic Climate and Ecosystems Cooperative, University of Tasmania, provided an overview of the climate variability on Tasmania resulting from global warming. |
