We highly value councils' membership. Their support helps build our regional presence and advocacy, while contributing their experience and expertise to the worldwide movement of local sustainability action.

ICLEI Oceania has since 1998 provided Member councils with program, technical and political support for action on climate change and sustainable development. Our office has provided hands on advice and support to council staff and recognition for council elected representatives.

There is a need to support elected representatives and senior management in their approach to the issues that confront their council and local community and do this in concert with councils in our region and around the world. As an advocacy and networking organisation we seek to support local leaders to be strong advocates in their community.

Membership benefits are provided by the ICLEI World Secretariat based in Bonn, Germany and the Oceania Regional Secretariat based in Melbourne. Together we place local government’s sustainability agenda before other levels of government and on the international stage on behalf of Members and the local government sector.

We therefore provide Member councils with up to date information on local initiatives though our bulletins, on-line case studies, participation in webinars on specific topics and access to international and national forums and conferences.
