General Information
ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability and the city of Kyoto have put together what we believe to be a comprehensive and dynamic few days to exchange ideas, to explore opportunities using emissions trading systems, and to become more strongly engaged on this important topic. We encourage you to attend this important event!
LOCATION:
The city of Kyoto will host the Kyoto Conference on Climate Change in the Kyoto International Conference Hall. Rooms will be accessible to the mobility challenged.
For information on the Kyoto International Conference Hall, please click here.
ACCOMMODATION:
The initial rooms that the city of Kyoto reserved for Conference participants at the Kyoto Takaragaike Prince Hotel are almost fully booked. This is a result of reduced capacity in the hotel due to scheduled renovations.
Please click here to access a list of hotels recommended by the city of Kyoto that are located in close proximity to the Kyoto International Conference Hall. To assist you, these hotels have been grouped into three different star ratings.
It is the responsibility of participants to make the necessary booking. Contact information for these hotels is provided in the document.
VISA INFORMATION:
Please click here for the website of the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs, which provides a table indicating which countries are exempt from needing a visa to travel to Japan.
TRANSPORTATION TO KYOTO CITY FROM KANSAI INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT:
Kansai International Airport in Osaka, Japan is the closest international airport to the city of Kyoto.
Staff of the Kyoto Conference on Climate Change will be stationed at the Kansai International Airport with signage to identify themselves, and will escort participants to the Japan Railway (JR) super express train - the Haruka.
When participants arrive at the Kyoto Central Station on the Haruka, there will be additional staff there on the platform to greet participants. They will escort participants to the subway and direct them to the Kokusaikaikan stop, which is the stop for the Prince Hotel and Kyoto International Conference Hall. (Should participants have a lot of luggage, another mode of transportation will be used from the Kyoto station to the hotel.)
All travel costs - the Haruka and the subway - will be generously borne by the city of Kyoto.
It is therefore very important that, once travel arrangements have been made, that the airline, flight arrival date and time information is passed along to the Conference organizers.
TRANSPORTATION TO KYOTO CITY FROM NARITA INTERNATIONAL AIRPORT, TOKYO:
For participants arriving at Narita International Airport in Tokyo, the Shinkansen "bullet train" covers the 510 kilometres from Tokyo to Kyoto in 75 minutes. The train is available from the airport terminal.
When participants arrive at the Kyoto Central Station on the Shinkansen from Tokyo, Kyoto Conference on Climate Change staff will be there on the platform to greet participants. They will escort participants to the subway and direct them to the Kokusaikaikan stop, which is the stop for the Prince Hotel and Kyoto International Conference Hall. (Should participants have a lot of luggage, another mode of transportation will be used from the Kyoto station to the hotel.)
ARRIVAL IN KYOTO CITY FROM WITHIN JAPAN:
Should participants be travelling in Japan prior to the conference or arriving from another location, a hospitality desk will be set up in the lobby of the Prince Hotel, staffed by the city of Kyoto and the event planners. These participants are welcome to arrive directly to the Prince Hotel on their own.
