The ICLEI World Congress 2006 was recently held in Cape Town, South Africa from 27 February to 3 March, 2006.

This, the first World Congress held in the southern hemisphere, was an unparalleled success. A content-rich and thought-provoking program organized around the themes of Protecting Global Common Goods, Building Sustainable Communities & Cities, and Implementation Instruments provided valuable input into ICLEI's 2007-2012 Strategic Plan: The Cape Town Plan, which was adopted by ICLEI's Membership on the final day of the World Congress.

The City of Cape Town served as a most gracious host, and ICLEI and its Membership extends its heartfelt appreciation.
