2008 Bicycling Achievement Awards - Nominations Open

A new local government category has been created. Nominations close 19 December.

Local Governments across Australia are faced with a number of issues that impact on the health, public safety, economic development and livability in their communities. Strategies to encourage walking and cycling can provide an important role in increasing mobility, supporting local businesses, managing congestion around schools, improving community safety and restoring a sense of community.

It is terrific to see many local governments around Australia implementing innovative strategies to take advantage of those opportunities by promoting and encouraging cycling and improving infrastructure to make it easier and more convenient for people to cycle be it for transport, health or recreation.

The Cycling Promotion Fund is calling for nominations for the 2008 Bicycling Achievement Awards.  To recognise the important role local government plays, a special category for local government has been established. Nominations are open now and close on the 19th of December 2008.

To find our more about the awards and make a nomination visit the Awards website:   www.cyclingawards.com.au <http://www.cyclingawards.com.au/>

Nominees will be included in a booklet that is distributed widely around Australia and winners in each category will receive a cash prize of $1,000 and are invited to an award ceremony in Canberra.
