Milestone 5: Monitor and Review

Note: The production of the materials on this website was funded by the Australian Government for use by local governments which were part of the Cities for Climate Protection Australia Milestone Support Program that ended on 30 June 2009. Please note that ICLEI Oceania Program and Project support, the Greenhouse Gas Application (GGA) and milestone recognition is no longer available.

Milestone 5 provides Council with the opportunity to assess its progress towards its reduction goals and reassess the strategic direction of its action plan.

It is also an opportunity to highlight the great work that has been done by Council in reducing emissions and saving money, as well as revisit the reduction goals and reflect on its experiences in implementing actions.

The Milestone 5 process involves these key elements:

  1. Reinventory of councils greenhouse gas emissions: the reinventory will provide an absolute measure of the trends in council's corporate emissions.
  2. Quantification of measures implemented: involves verified quantitative and qualitative assessments of the emissions reductions associated with abatement actions undertaken by council.
  3. Milestone 5 report: bringing together results from the reinventory and measures quantification. The report adds meaning to the data and provides direction for the future.

Having progressed through the milestone framework, council will have developed the capacity to undertake further greenhouse action. CCP Plus offers supplementary action projects for councils that continue greenhouse action through the CCP.

Cities for Climate Protection® (CCP®) Australia: implementing greenhouse action through a collaboration between the Australian Government and ICLEI Oceania. The CCP® Australia Program is funded by the Australian Government.
