Capacity Building in Indian Cities
ICLEI India, is proud to share the first initiative of capacity building between Vadodara Municipal Corporation (VMC) and Municipal Corporation Jabalpur (MCJ), under the Cities for Climate Protection Campaign. Under this initiative, Mr. Subodh Shah, Executive Engineer, Vadodara Municipal Corporation visited Jabalpur from April 2 to 6, 2003, to undertake a pilot review of the street lighting and water-pumping scenario in Jabalpur. During his visit, with the help of city engineers, a pilot review of street lighting and water pumping was conducted, the results from which highlighted the tremendous scope for energy efficiency in the present setup.
Mr. Shah gave a presentation on VMC initiatives to Municipal Corporation Jabalpur which was attended by the Commissioner, Corporate Members, and other municipal staff. His recommendations were later implemented by MCJ.
During this period, a visit to Lalpur water treatment plant was conducted and a walkover audit of the pumping system was held in the presence of city engineers and other support staff. The system measurements and data collected will be analyzed in a report to be generated by May 2003 which will detail energy saving measures and technologies that can further be integrated into water pumping systems to bring about maximum efficiency.
