Solar Water Heating System- Jabalpur
The cleanest way to cut emissions is to reduce them at their source and generate electricity in cleaner ways. Using renewable sources of energy like solar power is a fine example. Solar power reduces the amount of fossil fuels needed to produce electricity and allows for economic development to proceed in an environmentally sensible manner.

Keeping this in mind, Jabalpur Engineering college (JEC) and ICLEI came to an agreement to install a solar water heating system at Girl's Hostel. The heating system has a 1000-liter capacity per day and is installed with a five-year warranty/maintenance contract. This project was undertaken as a public-private partnership with 15% of the project being supported by ICLEI, 10% by a supplier (Shreyans Energy Pvt. Ltd), and the remaining 75% contributed by Jabalpur Engineering College.

Annual savings from the project will be Rs. 100,000/year, assuming current energy charges. This system will save 15,000 units of electricity annually, which will lead to an annual reduction of 18.5 tonnes of GHG emissions.
