Design Based Street Lighting- Jabalpur
Design based street lighting for Shastri Bridge, Jabalpur marks a positive step forward by Municipal Corporation Jabalpur in response to the capacity building initiatives undertaken by ICLEI.
Background
Shastri Bridge was constructed during the British era and is amongst the oldest landmarks of the city. It is a major link to the suburban areas of Jabalpur (i.e. Rampur and Gorakhpur), but being quite old, the lighting on the bridge was not up to modern standards and so MCJ wished to renovate the road and its lighting.
As part of its energy efficient activities, the ICLEI team along with Mr. Subodh Shah, Executive Engineer, Vadodara Municipal Corporation, and MCJ street lighting staff visited the bridge and suggested design changes, based on the concept of Design Based Street Lighting System (Refer to table below). These changes were well received and appreciated by Mr. Vishwanath Dubey, Mayor Jabalpur and Mr. Rajiv Dubey, Commissioner Jabalpur. As such, the modified system was established on May 27, 2003.

Energy Saving and GHG emission Reduction Details
| Annual Electrical Energy Unit Savings due to installation of 150 W HPSV in place of 250 W HPSV (kWh) | (100 w*10 hrs*36units*365 days)/1000= 13,140 kWh |
| Annual Electrical Bill Savings @ Rs 3.09 per unit | Rs 40,600 |
| Annual GHG Emission Reduction for 13,140 KWH/year | 13.5 Tonnes |
