Bhubaneswar - The Temple City
Bhubaneswar city is an historic city and is one of the first two planned capitals of independent India. Bhubaneswar city was planned by the famous Otto H. Koeignsberger and is renowned for being one of the best planned cities in India. Capital city of Orrisa State, Bhubaneswar is situated on the banks of the rivers Kuakhi and Daya.
Bhubaneswar is a dynamic city with one of the fastest growth rates, due to high flows of immigrants from various parts of Orrisa. During the period from 1961-71 it recorded a growth rate of 176.07% - the highest in India.
Bhubaneswar was established in 1952 as a Notified Area Council, which was further upgraded to Municipality in 1979 and Municipal Corporation in 1992. The city is divided into 47 wards.

Presently water is supplied to the city at a rate of approximately 182 million litres per day (MLD) which is significantly more than the required 91 MLD. Bhubaneswar generates around 350 Mt of Solid Waste.
