Vancouver as the most livable city in the world: interview

April 18, 2007

The city of Vancouver (Canada) was recognized as the world’s most livable city in the year 2006.

Please click for an interview with Mr. Gordon Price, Director of the City Program at Simon Fraser University, to learn of their approach to their urban environment.

The interview took place on 8 April 2007, and was conducted by ABC Radio National.

Urban form – in particular residential and employment densities – influence local energy consumption. Cities with higher population densities can take advantage of efficient ways to distribute energy and heat, and utilize transportation modes that are more energy-efficient and produce fewer carbon dioxide emissions. Vancouver is one of 19 local governments in Canada that are currently Members of ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability. For more information on ICLEI and its programs in Canada, please visit www.iclei.org/canada.
