Utrecht in the ‘Check it Out!’ project
March 07, 2007
Utrecht (the Netherlands) is participating in the European Union project ‘Check it Out!’.
The purpose of the project is to review and improve energy performance in schools and disseminate best practices from the project throughout Europe. Countries engaged in the project include Bulgaria, Germany, Hungary, Spain and the Netherlands.
Solutions to improve energy efficiency in schools will be both technical and organizational, and implementation will be done by the European Union under the Intelligent Energy-Europe Programme.
Educational programs on energy savings and climate change will also be part of the 30-month project, aimed to get both students and teachers actively involved.
Finally, the project will prepare a best practice model to improve energy performance in schools across Europe.
Energy efficiency programs offer one of the best ways to reduce global warming pollutants. A large share of fossil fuel use is dedicated to providing the electricity that powers almost all aspect of our daily lives.
