Drammen a Baltic Sea Cycling Partner
February 21, 2007
Drammen (Norway) has been participating since September 2004 as a partner in the project Baltic Sea Cycling.
Baltic Sea Cycling was established to develop urban transport systems focusing on bicycles to create attractive and sustainable townscapes.
Partly financed by the European Commission, the project is achieving the following deliverables:
- City profiles and Vision. A city profile was produced based on a standard model.
- The Attractive City. Partners developed interactive software to simulate how changes to the urban transport system will affect city attractiveness.
- Eco-City. The following pilot actions were undertaken: cycling to work, cycling to school, system for combining bicycles and public transport, healthy cyclists and cycling in cold and rainy weather.
- Strategy Design. Each partner is to produce their own urban cycling policy.
For more information on the project, please visit www.balticseacycling.com.
When properly supported with bikeways, traffic signals that favour bicycles, and other infrastructure and policies that promote safe, efficient cycling, bicycles can carry a substantial share of the urban transport burden. For more information on bicycling and other alternative modes of transportation, please visit ICLEI’s Cities for Climate Protection® Campaign at www.iclei.org/ccp.
Drammen is one of 159 local governments in Europe that are currently Members of ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability. For more information on ICLEI and its activities in Europe, please visit www.iclei.org/europe.
