Moonee Valley City Council adopt a tree project
February 21, 2007
Water Campaign™ participant, Moonee Valley City Council, is asking residents to adopt a tree in their street to help save water.
As part of this project Council is urging residents to capture grey-water and use it to water a tree in their local area. Moonee Valley City Council is striving to reduce its water consumption by at least 25% and this is one way the local community can become involved.
Additionally, as part of Moonee Valley City Council’s response to Stage 3 Water Restrictions, Council is implementing the following water saving measures: - Purchasing recycled water from Western Water for use on street trees and plants;
- Installing two 22,500-litre water storage tanks at the council depot to be used for water harvesting and storing recycled water;
- Ceasing all new garden bed and annual plantings;
- Converting Queens Park bed spray irrigation to a drip system;
- Ceasing irrigation of all open space areas;
- Using mulch at numerous sites and providing free mulch to the community when available; and
- Planting drought tolerant species.
