Nagoya introduces “Green Delivery”
February 07, 2007
Nagoya (Japan) is requiring that all delivery companies and suppliers use low-emissions and fuel-efficient vehicles.
Starting 1 April 2007, all tenders or orders for contracts must use eco-friendly vehicles to deliver goods under purchase or lease contracts with the city government, including city-run facilities such as ward offices, schools and hospitals.
Delivery companies and suppliers must provide the city with a declaration of their commitment. Once approved, delivery companies will then carry a certificate of green delivery, and can place ‘green delivery’ stickers on their vehicles.
The names of businesses that offer green delivery service are to be listed on the city of Nagoya’s website.
For many local governments, it is the transportation sector that produces the most greenhouse gas emissions. To learn more, please visit www.iclei.org/ccp.
Nagoya is one of 21 local governments in Japan that are currently Members of ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability. For more information on ICLEI and its operations in Japan in particular, please visit www.iclei.org/japan.
