Disaster management at the ready in Regina

January 10, 2007

The city of Regina (Canada) is well prepared for many types of disasters and emergencies, including wildfires, major storms, floods, chemical spills or earthquakes.

The Plan is a coordinated strategy working with other levels of government, local media, industry, and all local and national police services. These partners meet regularly to fine-tune and practice the plan.

Importantly, the plan provides guidelines for recovery after an emergency. For more information, please visit www.regina.ca/content/info_services/emergency_services/planning_program.shtml.

As part of its Resilient Communities and Cities Initiative, ICLEI is undertaking a project to assess the usefulness and usability of disaster risk management (DRM) tools for local governments. For more information, please send an email to resilient.communities@iclei.org.

Regina is one of 19 local governments in Canada that are currently Members of ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability. For more information on ICLEI and its activities in Canada, please visit www.iclei.org/canada.
