Manly offers the Hop, Skip & Jump Service
January 04, 2007
Manly (Australia) introduced the Hop, Skip & Jump service in March 2006 to encourage local residents out of private vehicles.
Consisting of mini-buses that run on four interconnecting routes and operate seven days a week, this free service was set up to reduce reliance on private vehicles and thereby minimize traffic congestion, relieve stresses on local parking facilities, and to improve the city’s environmental health.
In the first six months of operation, the service carried 100,000 passengers. City officials anticipate that this number will increase dramatically as they begin their summer period.
Manly is one of 105 local governments in Australia that are currently Members of ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability. For more information on ICLEI and its programs in the Oceania Region, please visit www.iclei.org/anz.
