Children for Climate Protection
May 06, 2009
The city network Climate Alliance appeals to children all over Europe to ZOOM in and get into action for climate protection. From this year's May until the end of November, primary school and kindergarten children all over Europe are collecting Green Footprints for a symbolic journey round the world for the 8th time!
During one week children carry out activities dedicated to sustainable mobility and climate change, focusing on the fun of movement and independent mobility. Kids discover their daily journeys and experience how they can contribute to treat the world's climate with care. Each journey completed on foot, by bike, roller skates, scooter, bus, train etc. counts one "Green Footprint". All schools and kindergarten are invited to participate, the more Green Footprints we reach the better!
Children in over 18 European countries were awaiting this year´s launch eagerly. And children from Belgium take part for the first time this year. ZOOM aims at collecting enough Green Footprints to surround the world more than 38 times, equalling 1,546,834 Footprints. That would beat the excellent result from 2008 and maybe it even will be better!
Climate Alliance is going to hand over the Green Footprints, collected by children all over Europe, to the participants of the UN Climate conference in Copenhagen in December.
The Zoom campaign has been coordinated by Climate Alliance since 2002 and so far participants in over 18 countries joined in. More than 115,000 children took part in 2008 and collected not less than 1,546,834 Green Footprints by using eco-friendly means of transport.
Climate Alliance is an Associate Partner of the Local Government Climate Roadmap. This global process advocates for a strong post-2012 climate deal and emphasizes the crucial role of cities and local governments in climate protection.
