Woking leads the way to sustainability
April 14, 2009
ICLEI member Woking Borough (United Kingdom), has published its local sustainability strategy online, offering a full set of resources and study sheets designed with local governments in mind.
For a number of years Woking Borough Council has been taking steps to tackle issues such as global warming and the depletion of local natural resources and continues to share the results of their work. The Council has developed a series of policies and procedures that aim to move their corporate commitment to sustainability forward.
These policies are based around sixteen sustainability themes, which include provision of appropriate and sustainable housing, a strong, diverse, and sustainable local economy and sustainable waste management. Woking is also a partner in the ICLEI-led project, Sustainable Now. The Sustainable Now website will be launched soon.
