ICLEI Canada highlights Earth Hour
April 09, 2009
The second annual global Earth Hour events took place two weekends ago, on Saturday March 28th.
According to the World Wildlife Federation’s (WWF) Earth Hour Website, Canada surpassed itself this year, with electricity use in Toronto having dropped by 15.1 percent over the hour, an additional 6.4 percent decrease from the 2008 figure.
While in the dark...
Over 280 Canadian cities, towns and municipalities signed up for Earth Hour and participated by hosting events such as star gazing, magic shows, and yoga classes in the dark.
An estimated 15,000 people attended a free concert at Toronto’s City Hall, and iconic buildings including the CN Tower switched their lights off – dramatically darkening the skyline.
