March 03, 2009
Incheon Metropolitan City, Korea's 6th largest local government with a population of more than 2.6 million recently became a Full ICLEI Member.
Incheon is very important economically and politically in Korea as the City located near the Seoul Metropolitan City. It has functioned as a gateway to Korea in a dual manner through Incheon International Airport and the also hosting the second largest port city in Korea. Moreover the city has an ambitious plan to hold a large "Global Environment Forum, Asia-Green Growth and Low Carbon Society" to be held in Incheon on 11-14 August 2009, backed by Korea Ministry of Environment and Knowledge and Economy as well as UN-ESCAP and other environmental institutions.
ICLEI Members in Korea are now representing nearly 85% of the population of the country, thanks to the continous work by ICLEI Korea Office. Accordingly, ICLEI Korea is pleased to welcome the new city in the global ICLEI association.
