Government of São Paulo launches protocol on certified timber
February 03, 2009
In February, the Government of the State of São Paulo will disclose a protocol which will recommend the use of certified timber in construction.
In partnership with APOP (Association of Entrepreneurs in Public Construction of São Paulo), AsBEA (Brazilian Association of Architecture Offices), WWF-Brazil, Greenpeace, SindusCon-SP, CBCS, Municipality of São Paulo and producers of certified timber, the government has not yet set a date to sign the document.
"The government invests in the dissemination of information about certified timber and creates mechanisms for this demand to come from the construction companies," says Lilian Sarrouf, of the Committee on the Environment of SindusCon-SP.
Also, the second edition of the book "Wood: Sustainable Use in Building Construction", revised by IPT, will be launched.
One of the goals of the publication is that engineers and architects start specifying the types of timber required not by name, but by technical needs, so they can thus be replaced by species produced closer to the sales location.
