ICLEI developing State Policies on Climate Change in Brazil

ICLEI´s Project Office in Brazil has begun to implement one of its newest projects, “Developing State Policies and Action to Combat Climate Change in Brazil”, with the support of the British Government’s Strategic Programme Fund (SPF) via the British Embassy in Brasilia.
This 2-year project, which will have the participation of the State Governments of Bahia, Mato Grosso and Pernambuco. ICLEI, with its recognized leadership in the field of climate change policies was invited by the British Embassy to administer the project which will aim to: - develop and/or strengthen a State Climate Change Forum (CCF) that will contribute to the National Forum on Climate Change,
- develop a State policy on climate change and Action Plan for each of the key policy areas outlined in the National Plan which will include State emissions’ targets,
- execute capacity building modules on climate change for a) policy-makers and b) technical staff,
- implement a communication campaign to disseminate achievements to other states /municipalities and the Federal Government (thereby influencing the National Plan on Climate Change) and
- work towards bringing in at least two additional States to replicate the process of developing State Plans and benefit from the know-how and scientific knowledge generated by this project.
