North Castle Global Warming Task Force engaging the community
October 31, 2007
The mission of the Town of North Castle (New York, U.S.A.) Global Warming Task Force is to support, involve and inform their community on global warming.
Furthermore, the purpose of the Task Force is to acknowledge and learn from those already taking action, and to coordinate efforts to reduce their ‘carbon footprint’.
The Task Force engages town residents and local businesses through community events, where all are asked to share what they are doing to reduce their carbon footprint. Events like guest lecturers are frequently held, and the Task Force’s website provides information on recycling, waste reduction, energy savings, and a comprehensive list of financial incentives available at the federal, state and county level to ‘go green’.
More and more cities are facing the need to mitigate climate change while already adapting to the changes brought about by climate change. ICLEI’s Cities for Climate Protection® (CCP) Campaign is an innovative international campaign that helps local government and their communities to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and their impact on the environment. And now, the CCP Campaign is launching the Adaptation Initiative, building capacity for climate change impacts at the local level. For more information, please visit www.iclei.org/ccp.
The Town of North Castle is one of 246 local governments in the U.S.A. that are currently Members of ICLEI - Local Governments for Sustainability. For more information on ICLEI and its activities in the U.S.A., please go to www.iclei.org/usa.
