Asquith Bowling and Recreation Club

Projects in Hornsby saving water

May 03, 2007

Hornsby Council and three local bowling clubs will save approximately 123 megalitres of water over the next ten years as a result of their self-sufficiency in water use.

The project involved the installation of rainwater tanks and the diversion of on-site drainage at the clubs. Harvested rainwater is now being used to irrigate the club’s bowling greens, gardens and grounds.

Hornsby Mayor, Mr. Nick Berman, said, “Water shortages have made projects such as these, and other types of water recycling, increasingly essential.”

The Hornsby Council worked in partnership with the clubs by submitting a grant application on their behalf to the NSW (New South Wales) government. The Hornsby Council then acted as a liaison between the clubs and the NSW government, and oversaw the engagement of contractors to carry out the work.
