Oakville part of a conservation movement

April 04, 2007

Oakville (Canada) offers an energy conservation program called ‘Oakville Conserves’ to its citizens and businesses.

The program is designed to enhance the knowledge of Oakville residents and small business owners on ways in which they can become more energy efficient.

Two aspects of the initiative, supported by the provincial government, are:

  • an energy conservation awareness open house available to all Oakville residents; and
  • the distribution of energy efficient lightbulbs to 200 small businesses in the downtown core.

At the open house, residents learn energy conservation tips, about technologies and alternate energy sources, as well as best practices for energy conservation at home and on the road.

Energy efficiency programs offer one of the best ways to reduce global warming pollutants. A large share of fossil fuel use is dedicated to providing the electricity that powers almost all aspect of our daily lives. For information on energy efficiency measures at the local level, please visit www.iclei.org/ccp.

Oakville is one of 19 local governments in Canada that are currently Members of ICLEI – Local Governments for Sustainability. For more information on ICLEI and its projects in Canada, please visit www.iclei.org/canada.
